Why should we hire you?

Question: Why should we hire you?

Response: That’s a good question and I am glad that you asked. Looking back at my personal and professional life, I notice a strong quality about myself, that I am a go-getter. This attitude has helped to learn anything fairly quickly and apply it to the situation at hand. When I commit to a task, I make sure that it is executed in the most optimum way. For example, when I joined Jon Corp, their direct marketing strategy was unique, nothing I had seen before. However, within 3 months – I was voted as the ‘employee of the month’ for sales, not just that, I was also named the ‘process champion’ to incorporate the idea that I have suggested. These new ideas have helped the company sell 30% more without increasing the manpower or the number of hours. I think your company is also looking for a creative go-getter with quick learning abilities and keen observation skills.

For Fresher’s’: That’s a good question and I am glad that you asked. Looking back at my personal and academic life, I notice a strong quality about myself, that I am a go-getter. This attitude has helped to learn anything fairly quickly and apply it to the situation at hand. When I commit to a task, I make sure that it is executed in the most optimum way. For example, when I was studying at the college full time, I also held a Hunger Thread Lead role at the Charity Is US Inc for the Metro area where I have conducted campaigns for the charity every weekend for 6 straight months without letting it affect my A scores at the college. At that same time, I also held a part time job at the Cheekos to support my education and expenses. I have learned about Managing time efficiently, doing things in the most optimum manner so that I can accommodate all the things that need to be done. My focus, dedication, hard work and quick learning abilities have helped me get through my hectic college life. Dedicating myself to the task has become my second nature. I think your company is also looking hardworking creative go-getter with quick learning abilities.

Notes: Answer to this question should always base your strengths that directly contribute to the role you are applying for. It is important that you know the job responsibilities when you attended the interview. Do NOT paraphrase the question during your answer, such as ‘that’s why your company should hire me’. Your response should always be zeroed on the qualities you bring.

Variations of this question:

  • What makes you the perfect candidate for this job?
  • What makes you a better candidate than others?
  • What do you bring to the table?
  • What qualities set you apart from others?

Trap alert: NEVER compare yourself with other candidates, even when the question is framed ‘what makes you a better option than others’. You do not know who applied for the job and even if you knew, you cannot compare yourself with others, however, you can compare yourself with YOU in relation to the job.
